ABOUT THE POSITION
You will be part of the Protein Science and Drug Design team, consisting of scientists with expertise within biophysics, biochemistry, crystallography, and computational chemistry. Your main contributions will be in establishing crystal systems for novel targets that will be used throughout our drug discovery projects, thus allowing for the computational and medicinal chemists to use structure-based design methods in the development of our new drugs. We work in efficient and dynamic project teams, which are adaptable and change depending on project priorities. This is a full-time permanent position.

You will bring your expertise into a team of dedicated scientists. You need collaborative skills and to communicate well when supporting parallel projects in a multi-disciplinary environment. Our company language is English.
Your main contributions will be in the area of Crystallography:
- Required skills: Extensive knowledge and practical experience with the crystallization of soluble proteins (initial screening, hit optimization), and especially of protein-ligand complexes. Previous experience in establishing robust crystal systems suitable for structure-based drug-discovery programs is an advantage.
- Optional skills: Evaluation of diffraction results, structure determination (molecular replacement phasing and refinement), and structure analysis.
Your secondary contributions will be in the area of Protein Science:
- Required skills: Knowledge and hands-on experience of recombinant protein purification and expression in bacterial systems (E. coli). Experience in other expression systems is also appreciated but not mandatory.
- Optional skills: Biophysical techniques and biochemical assay development and screening. We routinely use differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF, also called thermal shift assay) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) for hit identification and characterization. Knowledge and experience with these methods or other biophysical methods suitable for screening and/or protein characterization are appreciated.
